England Golf Partnership Awards Evening

The 2008 England Golf Partnerships Awards were held on Monday 25th February at the National Golf Centre, Woodall Spa , Lincolnshire. The evening was organised in conjunction with the first England County Golf partnership Conference and was fantastic celebration of the achievements of just some of the fantastic volunteers that golf has, Chairman of the England Golf partnership Bill Bryce presented the awards.

 

 

 

 

Below are the details of the  ‘Volunteer of the Year’ Award Winners 2008:

Ryan-LewisName: Ryan Lewis

County: Lancashire (St Helens)

Category: Young Volunteer

Ryan was part of the pilot scheme for the golf leaders award, despite having never played golf before. Whilst revising for his GCSEs, he accessed training as well as supporting primary schools with the delivery of out of hour sessions. Ryan’s biggest impact has been his work at Eccleston Park Golf Club in St Helens, where he helped with the preparation and support of the major adult competitions, whilst also working with young children who were accessing junior sessions held by the Head Professional. As a result of his work with the club he has now started to play golf and is well on his way to achieving his gold award of 50 volunteer hours.

As a Club Junior Organiser, June has been visiting primary and secondary schools for a number of years, delivering Tri Golf to boys and girls and also training school staff. June has brought in many new junior members to North Wilts GC and has actively coached boys and girls on a weekly basis, providing a welcoming and relaxed environment for all. Of late, June has been piloting specific sessions to attract new women into the game. Most recently June has been supporting North Wilts Golf Club in achieving GolfMark accreditation.

 

 

Michael-Hart-EssexName: Michael Hart 

County: Essex

Category: County Development

Over the last 7 years, Mike has been instrumental in the development of grass roots junior golf in Essex, creating links with sports development officers, schools and professionals throughout Essex. Of late Mike has played a major role in creating the Essex County Golf Partnership, of which he is now the first Chairman.

 

 

Joy-Hunter-YorkshireName: Joy Hunter

County: Yorkshire

Category: Services to Golf

Joy is Chair of the English LGU Scratch Score Committee and Scratch Score assessor for Yorkshire. Since 1989 Joy has been County Trainer for Yorkshire Ladies, acting as advisor to the County Captain and teams and by giving her time and dedication, she has developed and encouraged a team which has now won the English County Championship 8 times.

 

 

Joe-Boyd-Isle-of-ManName: Joe Boyd

County: Isle of Man

Category: Services to Golf

Joe has now been County Secretary for 10 years, following 5 years as Junior Organiser (both voluntary positions). He has given his life to helping develop golf at all levels and with his continued enthusiasm he has allowed the Isle of Man to provide good, well-organised golf for all. Most recently Joe has been vitally important in helping to create the Isle of Man County Golf Partnership.
